Good Friday Service

Wainuiomata’s Coast Road Church – Good Friday Service

In what was a first in nearly 60 years, on the 6th of April the pioneer Church on Wainuiomata’s Coast Road held a (multi-denominational) celebration of Good Friday.  The occasion was very well attended: Shirley Jarden took the service which included the singing of old hymns accompanied by the Church organ, plus readings and a thought-provoking address on what “Good Friday” means to us today.  Amongst those present were Mrs Heni Gordon and Mrs Saulsbrey, both of whom were married in the Church over 60 years ago, along with Mrs Shirley Spiers, formerly a member of the Wainuiomata Art Society who were caretakers of the Church for over 30 years after services were shifted from the Coast Road venue to St Stephens on the Main Road.  The weather could not have been better, and following the service guests were able to wander in the Churchyard, and enjoy morning tea and reminiscences.

The next event at the Church will be a commemoration of ANZAC Day on 25 April at 2pm.
